Here's a small biography about each band member

Serj Tankian

Born in Beirut, Lebanon on August 21, 1967. He is in charge of the keyboards and he is the main vocalist of the band.
His grandparents were survivors of the Armenian genocide. He attended Rose and Alex pilibos Armenian School, the same school as his bandmates Daron Malakian and Shavo Odadjian.
After System of a Down anounced they were going into hiatus. Tankian started a side project as a solo artist from 2007 to 2009. Releasing the album "Elect the Dead" and making collaborations with different orchestral bands and artists. A music video was directed and filmed for every song on the record, each by unique directors. Tankian said, "I asked each of the directors for their visual interpretation of my work. They were asked not to write treatments and that they could make whatever they liked. The results have been overwhelmingly amazing!".
Then in 2010 the band reunited but they only did tours after 2010.

Daron Malakian

Malakian was born in July 18, 1975. In Hollywood, California. He was an only child to Armenian parents. Malakian got into heavy music, wanting to play the drums at first but his parents got him a guitar because "You can't turn the drums off". After some time playing the guitar he realized it was a good songwritin instrument.
After SOAD went into hiatus malakian started his own project. a band named "Scars on Broadway". They released a self-titled album in 2008, but before the tour supporting the album, Malakian cancelled everything saying his "heart wasn't into touring", then dissapearing for around 1 year,later making a surprise appearence in 2009 at Odadjian's halloween party. In 2010,Scars on Broadway reunited
And in 2010 SOAD announced their reunification, dedicating only to touring.

Shavo Odadjian

Shavarsh (nicknamed "Shavo") Odadjian was born in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, Soviet union on April 22, 1974. But then moved to Los Angeles at the age of five.
He started his musical career manging the band Soil, band that Malakian and Tankian were part of. Later in 1995, `afer Soil split up and SOAD was formed, Odadjian became SOAD's permanent bassist. Passing his managerial duties to "Velvet Hammer Music".
During SOAD's hiatus Odadjian started a side project in May 2006 named AcHoZeN. AcHoZeN is the musical alliance between Odadjian, Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA, Kinetic 9 (Beretta 9 from Killarmy), and Reverend William Burke from Chicago.
On October 31, 2009, Odadjian hosted the event "Halloween" at The Roxy, in which he and his SOAD bandmates Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan reunited to jam on stage and perform various songs together.
Now Odadjian is the band's bassist and he directs most of the bands music videos, and is responsible for stage desing and lighning for each live performance

John Dolmayan

Hovig Dolmayan (better known as John Dolmayan) was born in Beirut, Lebanon on July 15, 1972 to Armenian parents. Dolmayan first became interested in drums at the age of two. His father was a saxophone player and when his mother took him to watch his father play, he mimicked his father's drummer.
Dolmayan Joined SOAD in 1997 After their original drummer Ontronik(Andy) Khachaturian left the band due to a hand injury. After SOAD went into hiatus, Dolmayan teamed up with Malakian to form a new band called "Scars on Broadway" which recorded their self-titled album in 2007 and released it on 2008.
Dolmayan also had his own projects during SOAD's hiatus. He recorded drums for the self titled album of a band named "Killing Joke". As well as playing drums on the "Axis of Justice" concert, tour with various artists, and on the Serj Tankian solo debut, "Elect the Dead"
In June 2009, Dolmayan formed a new rock band called "Indicator" with three friends from Southern California. The band played their first show at The Bitter End in San Diego on July 22, 2009, with Dolmayan's fellow Scars on Broadway member Franky Perez joining the band for a few songs.
